Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough is a large town in the north-east of England. When compared with most towns and cities in the UK, it is relatively young, being
founded in 1829.

The town saw rapid growth and migration throughout the Victorian period until the demise of its main industry of Iron. The town has more recently begun to recover from this demise.

Middlesbrough is usually regarded as the principle town in the Tees-Valley conurbation. Despite having a population in excess of 650,000 the conurbation has no city at its centre but is rather a loose collection of small towns.

The Borough of Middlesbrough has a population of 134,855 (not including suburbs that are part of neighbouring boroughs).
